Apple Cheeks inserts are made from organically-grown, super-absorbent, silky bamboo! The insert is made to be the very thirsty but extremely trim absorbent layer to your Apple Cheeks diaper. They are very versatile - the inserts can be folded however you wish to fit within both the Apple Cheeks Size 1 and Size 2 diapers!

Apple Cheeks recognizes that every baby has different absorbency needs. For daytime use, they make a 2-layer bamboo insert (which, when folded into thirds gives you a healthy 6-layers!), and for night-time they offer a thicker 3-layer bamboo insert (providing a whopping 9 layers when folded up and laid in your diaper).

 
Which insert(s) do I need?
Daytime: We recommend the 2-layer bamboo insert for the average wetter for daytime use.

Night-time: We recommend using a 3-layer bamboo insert for night-time. Many babies will need even more absorbency during these long hours - your Apple Cheeks diaper cover will fit snugly over top of a 2-layer PLUS a 3-layer insert at the same time, providing ample absorbency for even the heaviest wetters.

How many inserts do I need?
Apple Cheeks diapers are called "envelope covers" because they can be used as pocket diapers (where you place your insert into the diaper, underneath the microfleece), or as diaper covers (where you place your insert directly on top of the microfleece). There are advantages to both systems:
Envelope System: With the insert placed inside the pocket opening, wetness gets wicked away by the microfleece into the insert below. Because moisture does not stay right up against baby's skin, the diaper may be worn for several hours with baby remaining lovely and dry. When it's time to do a diaper change, both the Apple Cheeks diaper cover as well as the insert must be replaced for fresh ones.
Cover System: With the insert placed on top of the microfleece (ie, simply laid inside the diaper, not within the pocket), baby pees directly onto the insert. Moisture generally stays against baby's skin, so the diaper must be changed a bit more frequently. However, as long as your Apple Cheeks diaper cover is still clean (ie, not soiled), it can be reused. Simply replace the insert with a fresh, clean one! This system requires families to keep more inserts on hand, but fewer covers are required.
